Toronto's Leading Interior Designer, Architect, and Housing Developer. Bringing Lifestyle Rentals to Life.

Hi, I’m Philippe,

I have always been creative - even as a child - and my early start with industrial design confirmed my passion and affinity… I loved it and I was good at it.

This was the foundation that brought the guiding question: how can design improve our lives, starting with the home.

My creative thinking intuitively challenges why are things done a certain way, and pushes the ideas of lifestyle, needs and manufacturing to offer a balance between innovation and practicality.

Today my interests are in collaboration with fabricators, create useful and lasting products and spaces, and challenge big vision thinking.

Here’s a high level overview of my journey:

01

Product Design

Trained as an Industrial Designer in Canada - my design career began in the late 90s working for renowned furniture manufacturers and custom cabinetry firms.

Furniture was and remains a passion, yet I wanted more. I went back to school and transitioned from corporate office furnishings to residential design and architecture.

Interior Architecture

Following in the principle that architecture and interiors are products for living - the transition from furniture to private homes felt natural.

The impact of design is the essence of all projects, regardless of scale. Complete homes to small furniture and details. Creating lasting and inspiring environments and objects to surround us. As a backdrop to our life.

Design Studio

Beauparlant Design was established in 2003 to create distinctive spaces and objects. Encompassing architecture, interiors, furniture, and fixtures.

Projects are like puzzles, with an unknown final image - each piece representing a project parameter, value or opportunity - finding inspiration in the constraints - often resulting unexpected and distinctive solutions.

Collaborating with amazing clients and suppliers - every time reinventing, questioning and creating. This interaction continues to be my favorite part of the studio.

Out of Limits

In the design studio, I was always looking for opportunities.  How could I circumnavigate zoning bylaws, build cheaper with the same effect, or spin obstacle into a positive.  It was the thrill of the hack.

I even created an app to help homeowners plan and navigate through a renovation.  That's when I realized that the real opportunity in renovating… may be not doing it all.

This is where the journey begins, by asking what are the other possibilities, how can we design the lives and experiences we want to have, starting with housing.
